Motorola Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries are preferable as they offer you superior operation life between charges. This battery is capable to provide 30-40% longer operation time than NiCd, but is not suitable to operate in extreme temperatures. The added advantage of this battery is, it is less susceptible to "memory effect" compared to NiCd batteries.
